Supporting the Carer, Too

When you care for someone you love, you give so much of yourself — your time, your energy, your patience and your heart. Day after day, you may be putting someone else’s needs first, while quietly carrying your own tiredness, worry and emotional load. And sometimes, the person doing the caring is the one who gets forgotten.

You deserve care too.

When caring leaves little time for you

Being a carer can mean constantly thinking about someone else. Have they eaten? Are they okay? What do they need today? What needs to be organised? What happens if things get harder?

There can be appointments, routines, responsibilities and difficult moments to navigate. You may be trying to hold everything together while also managing your own emotions. And there may be very little opportunity to simply stop. Not because you don't need a break — but because there is always something else that needs doing.

Over time, that constant emotional and mental load can leave you feeling stressed, overwhelmed, exhausted, tense or unable to properly switch off. Sometimes you don't need another thing to do. You just need a little space to breathe.

A little care for the person doing the caring

Self-care doesn't have to mean taking hours away or doing something elaborate.

Sometimes it can be as simple as giving yourself a few quiet moments where you don't have to think about anyone else's needs.

A chance to settle your mind.

To release some of the tension you're carrying.

To breathe a little more deeply.

To remind yourself that your wellbeing matters too.

This is why I've created two gentle hypnosis resources specifically for carers.

Carer Calm – Supporting the Carer

Carer Calm is designed as a gentle wellbeing resource for carers who may be experiencing stress, overwhelm, emotional exhaustion or simply finding it difficult to switch off.

It provides an opportunity to step away from the demands of the day for a little while and focus on yourself.

Carer Calm – Dementia Support

Caring for someone experiencing memory changes or dementia can bring its own particular challenges. There may be changes in communication, routines, relationships and day-to-day responsibilities. You may find yourself grieving changes while still needing to be present and supportive each day.Carer Calm – Dementia Support has been created specifically with these experiences in mind, offering a gentle space for the carer to pause, settle and receive some care themselves.

You matter too

It can be easy to put your own needs at the bottom of the list. But you are not just the person who organises, remembers, supports, reassures and cares for everyone else.

You are a person who needs care, rest and kindness too.

You don't have to wait until you're completely exhausted before giving yourself permission to pause. Even a few quiet moments can be a small reminder:

I matter too.

If you're caring for someone you love, I hope these resources can offer you a little moment of calm in amongst everything else. Because you give so much to the person you care for.

This is a little reminder that you deserve some care, too. 🤍
